Moorhead Collection Book Spotlight

Hollywood has long had a fascination with war, from the black-and-white films of the 1920s to the 1960’s color films with well-known actors, such as John Wayne, to the contemporary films with big names, such as Ben Affleck, and special effects that dazzle moviegoers. In this book, you will read about the evolution of the war movie, the unique approaches to the major wars as depicted by Hollywood, and see how society reacted to these various approaches. Since the beginning of cinema, Hollywood has romanticized just about everything and the war movie is no exception. From John Wayne’s 1960’s The Conqueror to the blockbusters of the early 21st century, romanticizing the violence of war has played a major part in just about all movies.

You may have heard about censorship in the United States during times of war, but did you know only one movie studio actively condemned the Nazi actions during the 1930’s?

Expand your knowledge.
